Postecoglou was a key part of Celtic's title-winning success in his first campaign at the club
Reports emerged on Saturday evening that Kjetil Knutsen and Roberto De Zerbi were among the candidates for the role, with a move for Postecoglou unlikely.
However according to The Times, the Celtic boss is firmly in the mix for the role.
Postecoglou became Celtic boss in the summer of 2021 and enjoyed a wonderful first season at the club after guiding the Bhoys to the Scottish Premiership and League Cup title.
It's claimed that the Seagulls have been impressed by the feedback received around the Australian coach, not just due to his on-field achievements, but also his way of handling pressure during an intense season at Parkhead.
They Brighton chiefs have also been impressed by his success with new signings, a key part of the club's philosophy as they look to build for the future.
It is said, however, that De Zerbi is the frontrunner for the role with the Italian shining for Sassuolo and Shaktar Donetsk in recent years.
The Australian is on a long list to replace Potter with Brighton
Knutsen has been impressive during his tenure at Bodo/Glimt where he masterminded an astonishing 6-1 win over Italian giants Roma in the Europa Conference League last season.
In doing so, the Norwegians became the first team to score six in a single game against a Jose Mourinho coached club.
