Aston Villa and Watford had reached an agreement for the transfer of Ismaila Sarr, with a deal worth €28 million in the works. However, that seems to have fallen through with the player failing to agree personal terms over a move.
According to TalkSPORT, the deal collapsed following a conversation between Sarr and Villa manager Steven Gerrard. There have been reports suggesting that the board was keen on signing the Senegalese while Gerrard was content with the options he had available - with Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Phillippe Coutinho all available for the Liverpool legend.
Ismaila Sarr to stay at Watford after move collapses
The 24-year-old was subject to interest from several Premier League clubs this summer. The likes of Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Villa had all inquired about his availability, with the latter potentially winning the race. But it now seems like he will be staying with the Hornets after all.
Following the departures of Emmanuel Dennis and Joao Pedro, Watford would be in a precarious position if they sold Ismaila Sarr as well. The winger is one of their best attacking outlets at this stage, and his loss would further dampen their hopes of returning to the top flight next season.
But despite the move collapsing, Watford have signed Kourtney Hause from Aston Villa to bolster their defense for the season.
