The driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Main Street and Ninth Avenue early Friday morning has turned himself in.
At 5:24 a.m. Friday, the driver of a yellow Jeep Wrangler turned left at the intersection and hit a man in the crosswalk, according to a Longmont Public Safety news release. The driver then fled east on Ninth Avenue to Weld County Road 1 before driving south to Colo. 119.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, according to the release.
At 3 p.m. Friday, Longmont police said a man turned himself in, claiming to have been the driver.
Ramon Mosqueda Lara, 61, was arrested on suspicion careless driving resulting in injury, leaving the scene of a crash and failing to notify police.
According to an affidavit, Mosqueda Lara admitted to striking the pedestrian. Mosqueda Lara told police he initially "freaked out and drove off," but then later realized he needed to turn himself in.
