Three Sterling City Council members are seeking re-election in November, and all three face opposition.
Mayor Brenda Desormeaux will stand for re-election as an at-large candidate. She will be opposed by Matthew Foos.
Frank Angell is running for election in Ward 1, to which he was appointed in December 2022. Mike Anderson had resigned the post in August 2022; Steve Burnham was appointed in October 2022 to replace Anderson, but Burnham died unexpectedly only a month after being sworn in. Angell was appointed to replace Burnham. Angel is opposed by Jim Trout and Megan Wolf.
In Ward 2, Mandy Ritter will seek a second term. She faces challengers Dana Lyons and Kellan Raeffeli.
Voters also will decide two ballot questions in November. City Council is asking residents to decide whether marijuana, now legal in Colorado, should be offered for sale inside the Sterling city limits. Voters also will decide whether Sterlingites can keep and raise chickens in their back yards.
