David "Gus" Gustafson will display his photographs, at The Orphanage in Yuma, during September and October.
The name of the show is David Gustafson Photography and on display will be wildlife photos, landscape, and night sky images.
Photographer and Yuma resident, Gustafson was a math teacher and sports coach in the Yuma School System for 29 years. He moved from the Chicago area to Yuma, Colorado, in 1975. To promote and support his students, he began photographing his athletes and sharing those photos with their families and the local newspaper. Now retired, Gus continues his sports photography but has expanded his interests to include landscape and astrophotography.
Also known as astronomical imaging or night sky photography, astrophotography uses extended exposure times to capture celestial objects and events. This type of photography dates to the mid-19th century, but advances in digital technology now allow for wonderfully detailed astronomical images.
To learn and improve his skills as a photographer, Gus has taken several clinics with well-known professionals such as John Fielder, (Colorado landscape photographer, conservationist, and publisher of over 40 books), Glen Randall, (Colorado and Utah freelance photographer and photo instructor), and Mike Berenson, (Colorado landscape and night sky photographer). Gus continues to read, investigate, and experiment with his camera.
David Gustafson Photography runs from Sept. 23 through Oct. 29 at the Orphanage. Hours for the exhibition are 10am to 4pm, Tuesday through Saturday and 1pm to 4pm, Sundays. The Orphanage is closed on Mondays.
The artist reception for this exhibit will be Saturday, Sept. 23 from 1pm to 5pm. Refreshments will be served.
The Orphanage is in downtown Yuma at 300 South Main Street. For more information about this exhibit or future shows, please contact Richard Birnie at (970) 630-3360, or visit the Orphanage website at orphanageyuma.com.
