Go hard or go home. That was Chelsea owner Todd Boehly's mantra when it came to spending in his first January transfer window.
But even though the Blues would have broke all-but one record January record on their own, it turns out the other 19 Premier League clubs would have smashed the record without them anyway.
The Premier League would've broken the January spending record even without Boehly splashing the cash
It's also triple the previous January window outlay of £295million.
Leeds broke their transfer record after signing Rutter
Elsewhere Newcastle spent a reported £40million initial fee to bring forward Anthony Gordon from struggling Everton - who were the only club not to make a January signing.
Meanwhile Liverpool spent £38million on Netherlands international Cody Gakpo and Leeds broke their transfer record with a £35million move for Hoffenheim's Georginio Rutter.
More than £275million was spent on deadline day alone, too.
This was an increase of 83 per cent on the previous January record of £150million, set in 2018.
In total, Premier League clubs have spent three times more than the other top five leagues in Europe combined.
The previous record for a full season saw £1.43billion spent in the summer of 2017, with the January window's £430million making for a total of £1.86billion, and this campaign has blown that out of the water.
The record had already been broken by a £1.92billion summer outlay, with that mark soon extended through £2bn for the first time and to an eventual total of £2.8bn - a new all-time high.
