Drought mitigation and the continuing evolution of the Colorado Water Plan will be on the agenda in February when the Colorado Ag Water Alliance holds the South Platte Water and Drought Symposium in Sterling.
Joel Schneeklolth, water resources specialist for Colorado State University's Great Plains Research Station, will have information on proven drought mitigation strategies, especially helpful for irrigators.
That will be followed by Nora Flynn giving an update on the Colorado Water Plan, with a focus on what it means for agriculture. Flynn is senior agricultural specialist for the Colorado Water Conservation Board.
Joe Frank, general manager of the Lower South Platte Water Conservancy District, will update participants on developments along the South Platte River's lower reaches, Greg Peterson of the Ag Water Alliance will talk about finding funding for irrigation projects, and there will be an update on the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service programs from USDA's David Colburn.
The symposium will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Knights of Columbus Building, 421 S. 11th Ave. in Sterling and is scheduled to run from 8:50 a.m. to 1:50 p.m. Lunch will be provided as a grab-and-go, or participants can stay and network.
