Cristiano Ronaldo has accused Manchester United chiefs of doubting him when he missed the club's pre-season due to his daughter's illness.
The Portuguese superstar played no part in the Red Devils' pre-tour of Asia and Australia in the summer, with a 'family issue' cited by the club as the reason for his absence.
Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez welcomed daughter Bella into the world in April but sadly lost their twin son during childbirth
In his interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV, Ronaldo has gone into more detail about the episode.
He revealed partner Georgina Rodriguez and baby daughter Bella Esmeralda were hospitalised with a 'big problem', only a matter of months after the death of their newborn son, but claimed he was not fully believed by those in power at United.
"I saw the director and president of Manchester United and they kind of didn't believe that there was something going wrong, which made me feel bad," Ronaldo said.
"They believe me but in the same way they're...
"I'm never going to choose football over the health of my family, never. Not now or ten years behind or forward.
"It's something that really hurt me because they doubted my word that I struggle, especially Bella and Gio [Georgina Rodriguez], we had one week in hospital because Bella had a big problem.
"And I didn't go to the pre-season tour because of that... I think it wouldn't have been fair to leave my family for pre-season, this is why I didn't go."
Ronaldo has suggested the relevant bodies at Man United doubted his word
Ronaldo has also criticised the club and owners the Glazers in the explosive interview with Piers Morgam
It is making headlines around the world, with United releasing a statement on Monday saying they would decide on what action to take once they have assessed matters.
The statement read: "Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo. The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
"Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans."
Ronaldo, meanwhile, posted a message on Monday evening insisting his full focus was now on the World Cup.
The World Cup gets under way on Sunday, although Euro 2016 winners Portugal, who are in Group H, do not begin their campaign until November 24.
In a message posted on social media, along with a photo of him and some of his international team-mates, Ronaldo said: "Total and absolute focus on the work of the national team.
"A united group, towards a single objective: to fulfil the dream of all Portuguese people!"
