Manchester United have been told to 'let Cristiano Ronaldo go' amid reports of him being 'dismayed' with Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo faced the ultimate nadir of his second spell at Old Trafford last time out in the Premier League when he was left on the bench for the entirety of a 6-3 loss to Manchester City.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute for the Manchester derby, and didn't look happy about it
He then followed it up with a poor Europa League display
That was the first league game where Ten Hag wasn't rewarded for dropping the Portugal captain, though, with a four-game winning streak coming after Ronaldo made way in the wake of a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Brentford.
But with another worrying loss against local rivals, debate has again re-opened about the manager and his five-time Champions League-winning superstar, who is reportedly unhappy with his new Dutch coach.
The Times reports that not only is Ronaldo 'dismayed' at Ten Hag, but the two are at 'loggerheads', with forward complaining about the 'nature and quality of training sessions'.
Ronaldo also finds the former Ajax boss 'stubborn', making the situation between the club and player rather bleak after a summer where he attempted to leave.
The 37-year-old's agent reportedly held talks with Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in attempts to secure a move away from Old Trafford, and will likely be ready for round two when the January transfer window opens.
talkSPORT's Tony Cascarino believes that would be the right path for all parties involved, as keeping a superstar on the bench never works out.
"Personally I always feel with certain players that they're so big at a football club that if you're not going to play them just let them go elsewhere," he said.
"I think you have to do that, Bayern Munich did it with [Robert] Lewandowski in the end, he wanted to go, and what did they do? They let him go to Barcelona.
"Roy Keane himself left Manchester United the moment he became a problem. If he wasn't going to be used by [Sir Alex] Ferguson he was out the door and gone."
Cascarino added: "Why would you keep someone who is 37-years old, not as good as he once was, and not utilise him very often?
"He looks like he will play no part. I watched him midweek and he didn't play particularly well.
"Just cut your ties. Free up wages. Ronaldo is on a lot of money and he wanted to leave.
"He won't just be thinking about money. I just thought it was wrong to keep him."
