The home team set the tone with the first innings very positively, scoring 208 for six wickets after 20 overs. Hardik Pandya put in another impressive performance, scoring 71 from only 30 deliveries, while KL Rahul also pitched in with 55 runs of his own. Suryakumar Yadav missed out on his own half century by only four runs.

Cameron Green turned the tide for the visitors, scoring 61 in 30 balls. Green, Matthew Wade and Steve Smith were all dropped by India, which only made it more difficult for them later on in the game.
The Blues had yet another struggle to keep composure at the death. Australia were able to score 22 runs in the 18th over and 16 in the 19th over to turn things around. And in the end, the poor fielding cost the home team the game.
Matthew Wade was a vital part of the win for Australia, as his boundaries helped the team through the pressure of the final overs and pick up the first win in the series.
