The mop puzzle comes up early in the game, but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most annoying things there. This guide will discuss everything you need to know to solve this puzzle and get the mop required to do it. If you already have access to the hint book provided by the International House of Mojo, keep it by your side, but as far as this puzzle goes, there isn't much the hint book can do.
Before you can get the mop, you need to get the ingredient book and write a letter to Carla:
- Speak with the Quartermaster to get a job at LeChuck's ship
- Go to the docks and reach Carla's re-election poster to know her slogan
- Speak with the cook at Scumm Bar's kitchen to borrow the mop
- Go to Carla's statue in Low Street and reach the plague to get the location
- Go to the International House of Mojo and buy the knife and the forgiveness frog
- Try to borrow the Ingredients book from the Governor's Mansion
You now need to write an apology to Carla by using the feather quill and the frog you acquired. Depending on your playthrough, you will see a different third and fourth phrase each time. Use the first two phrases, "Dear Carla" and "Sorry for losing the book I borrowed." Use her slogan as the third phrase, and go with whatever you want for the fourth phrase because that one doesn't matter.
Go to Scumm bar and give the book to the cook. While the cook is distracted, use a knife to carve a sliver of his mop. Take that sliver to Wally at Maps-n-More on Low Street to get the map for the mop tree's location. Go to the forest near the Museum of Pirate Lore and use the map to reach the mop tree. Carve a piece of wood when you reach the tree and craft the mob in your inventory.
