The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has unveiled a new logo and format for its first-ever international tournament, the WBSC Virtual Cup. The tournament will be spread across four countries (which have not yet been revealed) in September before the finals are held in South Korea this November.
The WBSC Virtual Cup will see baseball and softball fans using Newdin Contents' "Strikezon" technology as their virtual field of play. This comes on the heels of a multi-year partnership the two sides established in January, which also had them collaborating on the creation of the official tournament logo and format.
"The WBSC Virtual World Cup event and logo is a genuine representation of our organization today - dynamic, innovative, and forward-thinking - and can further inspire the baseball and softball community to come together on a new platform in a different format," said Riccardo Fraccari, the President of the WBSC. "We enter the virtual world with a project that is fully in line with the WBSC strategic goal about growing our sport and making it relevant in people's lives and communities. I want to thank Newdin Contents' leadership for sharing our common vision and look forward to this event being the start of a long-standing, mutually beneficial partnership."
The WBSC says it plans to announce the full tournament schedule and regulations sometime later this month.
