Following a 1-15 season for Towns County, coach Clay Livingston and the Lady Indians are seeking to take a step more toward the 8-win 2020 season. Last year was a rebuild of sorts, as the 2020 team had 8 seniors that had moved on. This year has better optics for the team up in Hiawassee.
"There will be a learning curve with so many young players, but we are excited about their potential," states Livingston, who is now in his fourth season. "We expect to fight for a playoff spot and continue to progress as a program."
Head Coach: Clay Livingston, 4th season 2021 Record: 1-15; No Playoffs
A playoff trip in 2022 would go a long way for a program that has not been at least since 2009.
Key Returning Players: Laura Mauldin, Halie Arrowood, Elizabeth Edwards, Callie Drew Livingston
After starting 6 underclassmen last season, more experience returns in 2022. Gone are the senior leaders Rylie Livingston, Alissa Moss, and Lilly Winn, but Laura Mauldin anchors this team. The junior was defensive player of the year a couple seasons ago, and last year was even better. Hallie Arrowood is a two-year starter as well that will be huge in the circle and in the infield and outfield. Elizabeth Edwards (1B) also will be relied upon heavily, and so too will be 3B Callie Drew Livingston.
Halie Arrowood started last year as a freshman and will be a big part of this year's team, Elizabeth Edwards played a lot last year as a freshman and will also be counted on to play a big role this year."
"We return several All-Region players including catcher Mauldin, pitcher/IF/ OF Arrowood, 3B Livingston, and 1B Edwards," says Livingston. "We did lose 4 seniors including our entire outfield and shortstop. We have some good young talent coming back as well as up from the middle school team.
Strengths & Areas of Focus
Strengths: Returning experience. As Livingston stated, All-Region talents like Mauldin, Arrowood, Edwards, and Livingston will be crucial to the success of the team.
Focusing On: Taking a game at a time. Confidence will be key for this team, and now that many of them have the experience, the next step is to go out and win games one at a time.
