Tottenham's Champions League hopes were further dented as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw with Brentford in the Premier League.
The pressure was on Spurs after top four rivals Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 at the Emirates in the early game on Saturday.
Kane had another tough day at the office and was unable to inspire his teammates
Conte was fuming with his side as they struggled to create clear cut chances
And they were unable to strike back as another lethargic display against a side in the bottom half of the table cost them dear.
Spurs struggled to get going in the first half in west London and even when they improved in the second they became embroiled in an end-to-end battle.
The Bees rocked their opponents with a number of close shots in both halves but Antonio Conte's men somehow kept them out.
Ivan Toney and Christian Eriksen were the chief troublemakers for the host.
Spurs, meanwhile, found their opponents all-but inpenetrable and were reduced to half-chances and potshots, leaving players and manager Antonio Conte frustrated.
And now they sit two points behind the fourth-placed Gunners in fifth position while Thomas Frank's Brenford reach the coveted 40-point mark and move to 11th.
Tottenham struggled with Brentford
From the off, Tottenham were barely at the races with Brentford racking up a catalogue of chances from set-pieces.
Christian Eriksen's whipped deliveries caused his former side plenty of problems and they also struggled to deal with the second ball.
On three occasions Toney was left free at the back post and the visitors somehow, by hook or by crook, managed to nudge the ball away from danger just in time.
Toney saw one effort then crash off the bar with Hugo Lloris in fine fettle to give the ball a push on its way.
Lloris - and the woodwork - denied Toney
Spurs barely troubled the Bees and even when they did get into a decent position they failed to capitalise.
Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur walloped an ambitious long range shot high and wide of David Raya's goal in embarrassing fashion.
Spurs gradually took more control but found it hard to translate possession into to chances, as they did in their loss to Brighton.
And in a desperate attempt to must a shot on goal, Kane chipped a tame shot straight at Raya.
Conte was clearly frustrated by his side's performance in the first half
In the second period, Lloris was nearly caught out twice as Brentford pressed hard early on, but Spurs also created openings.
The first major chance fell to Bryan Mbeumo, though, but he could only fire over at the far post.
Spus looked slicker after the break and some swifter passages of play led to a flurry of strikes but the Bees' defence held firm.
Eriksen then nearly struck a fairytale long-range goal but saw his effort flicked wide and the resulting corner caused chaos with Kane clearing off the line.
A frenetic end to the game saw both sides push hard with Toney striking the woodwork again and Kane almost pulling out a spectacular winner.
But the spoils were, in the end, shared, leaving Spurs' Champions League qualification hopes bruised.
