Raheem Sterling has the chance to fire Manchester City to Champions League glory and cement his spot in the competition's illustrious history.
The England star has had a chequered relationship with Europe's premiere competition, having never won it and lost in last season's final.
Rooney is close to losing a number of his records to former teammates
Sterling - whose watched former side Liverpool's triumph in 2019 - missed a golden early chance in that 1-0 defeat to Chelsea.
The 27-year-old also had VAR rule out what would have been a late winner against Tottenham while he was powerless to stop similar humbling Champions League exits to Monaco and Lyon in recent years.
But Sterling has still been Pep Guardiola's key source of goals during his time at the Etihad and now he's closing in on a huge record.
The winger is currently joint-second alongside Paul Scholes in the list of the top English goalscorers in Champions League history on 24.
Should Sterling find the net in either of City's semi-final showdowns with Real Madrid he will move within five of chart-topper Wayne Rooney.
As it stands, Sterling is the only in the top-five to have not won the Champions League but he is also the only active player.
Sterling would already be ahead of Scholes if this one against Spurs had counted
Kane will overtake Rooney as England's top scorer but Sterling is winning the European stakes
Harry Kane might be closing in on Rooney's England record but Tottenham's absence from the competition in recent years has him down in sixth.
Marcus Rashford, meanwhile, would have backed himself to break into the top ten this season following his return from injury.
But Manchester United's early exit coupled with his own loss of form means he's still one behind Peter Crouch on 12 goals.
Rashford's solitary strike in this year's Champions League came in the 3-2 group-stage win over Atalanta but he might have to wait even longer to add to that should United finish outside of the top four.
Rashford only managed one European goal this year
