Hello Armies! Mr Frog Hubient is here and today I will give you my first impression about a fun and exciting action adventure game. Gods Will Fall.
Gods Will Fall, loosely inspired by Celtic mythology is set in a world that sees a warrior nation battling with an oppressive pantheon of deities. After a few ritual sacrifices and some hard work, the nation forms an elite army of hard nuts to attack the island where the Gods have made their home. The Gods don't want to let them down, and they promptly sink the whole fleet.
Each "run" starts with 8 randomly selected survivors, who you then must take through 10 caves in order to defeat the Pantheon one at a time. Randomization is also a major theme in Gods Will Fall. You never know what you can expect from your 8 potential heroes. They will have different bodies, strengths, weaknesses and weapons. There are four types of bodies, as well as a range of weapons, from large warhammers and spears to double hatchets and swords. Additionally, there is a basic version of Darkest Dungeon's mental health element, which sees your heroes affected if something happens to them or their fellow players.
Gods Will Fall has some issues with performance. Although it looks good on both Xbox Series S as well as Nintendo Switch, it is noticeably sharper on the latter. The frame rate is generally stable on Xbox, but there are some stutters when you enter certain dungeons. It can also tank quite hard on Switch from time to time, which, combined with the shaky cam effects, and the ominous shaking of the camera, can make it a little frustrating. It is possible to enlarge text on Switch, but the action can sometimes seem very distant when zoomed out by the camera at certain moments.
Gods Will Fall was a great game. I did rage quit it more than any other game over the past few months, but it was still a lot of fun. It is worth taking the time to understand the layouts and mechanics of each enemy or God. You will soon become attached to your most brave, bravest, and best-equipped heroes. Although the random nature of each run can be a plus and a disadvantage, it can also frustrate players. It's still a solid hack-and-slash adventure that will satisfy any challengers while it lasts.
