MLS GAMEWEEK 10
Here we are, it's gameweek 10 of the MLS season. There have been many twists and turns already this season which makes for great entertainment, this can be difficult for daily fantasy but don't fear I am here to give you my take on who to consider for your teams this game week.
We have 12 games this week instead of the usual 14. As always the slate requires an 11 man team. With that let's get into it.
THE CONTEST
The full round contest runs through 30 April - 02 May
The full round game has 1 contest this week with an entry fee of €5 and a prize pool of €600.
The rules are simple to follow. You will be required to pick 11 players to fill out your squad whilst staying within a budget of 108.0m. For each team you enter, you must select a captain and a vice captain. Your captain will score 2x points. However, in the event that your captain does not play, your vice captain will then score 2x points.
You can select a maximum of 3 players from the same team. It is worth noting that if you select two or more defensive players from the same team (GK and DEF), and the team keeps a clean sheet, a stacking penalty will apply.
No bench required in this contest, folks. Instead, you have the innovative safety net feature to fall back on! This means if you have a player who does not start, your player will be replaced at the beginning of the match. This is dependent on a player being available from the same team, at the same price or less. The closest price to your player value will be automatically selected.
Standard FanTeam scoring applies to this contest.
With the rules covered, let's take a look at some of my picks from each game shall we?
THE GAMES
Toronto Vs Cincinnati - 20.00pm BST (30/04/22)
Toronto could be one of the most entertaining teams in the MLS currently both in a good way and a bad way. Every game they have played so far has had both teams score with 7 out of 8 having over 2 goals in them. Jesus Jimenez ( 11.2M ) is the joint top goal scorer in the MLS with 6 goals and got himself 2 last weekend in the 5-4 defeat by New York City. Alejandro Pozuelo ( 10.9M ) provided two assists last week and is key to Toronto unlocking the Cincinnati defense this weekend. Cincinnati aren't in great form with no wins in their last 4 games. Last week they were without Brandon Vazquez (8.1M) and will need him back this week to get something here. Luciano Acosta ( 7.4M ) scored last week in the loss to LAFC and will need to keep that up here to try and turn Cincinnati's fortunes around. Expect goals here and a great way to start the slate.
Real Salt Lake vs LA Galaxy - 20.30pm BST (30/04/22)
Real Salt Lake started the season well but have now gone 5 games without a win and are slowly slipping down the pecking order. They face a Galaxy side in great form, 4 unbeaten and sitting 3rd in the Western Conference. Games between the two are usually close games and despite the form of both i expect a close game here also. Real Salt Lake haven't scored in there last 2 games and may struggle again here. Justin Meram ( 8.8M ) is someone who Real Salt Lake rely on every week, however does struggle to see out the full 90 minutes. Javier Hernandez ( 9.3M ) leads the line for the Galaxy and has 5 goals this season. He hasn't scored in the last 2 games so will be looking to get back on the scoresheet this weekend. Defensively the Galaxy are a good side and Jonathan Bond ( 7.1M ) could be a good option to have in goal this weekend.
CF Montreal Vs Atlanta Utd - 21.00pm BST (30/04/22)
Montreal are on a roll, 5 games unbeaten, and an impressive draw away to Philadelphia last weekend. I have a lot of options here for Montreal this week, Djordje Mihailovic ( 10.4M ) could possibly be my favorite player of the weekend. Romell Quioto ( 9.8M ) has started the last 2 games as the main striker and is another great option for this week. Atlanta do sit 4th in the Eastern Conference however since losing Josef Martinez to injury. They have also lost their starting goalkeeper this week to an achilles tendon injury, so they are going to need to use attack as the best form of defense. A loss to Inter Miami last week tells you where Atlanta is currently. Ronaldo Cisneros ( 7.2M ) got his first goal for Atlanta in that defeat last week and will be needed again here to try and take something from this game. These 2 met earlier in the season in a 3-3 draw where Montreal threw away a 2 goal lead after Atlanta took the lead. Another possible goal fest here in prospect.
Columbus Crew Vs DC United - 00.30am BST (01/05/22)
Both teams haven't had the best of starts to the MLS season. Columbus started well going 4 unbeaten but have since now gone 5 without a win. They also have not scored a goal in their last 4 games. They face a DC side who have just beaten New England 3-2 which ended their run of 4 losses on the bounce. Which also coincided with DC sacking their old manager and promoting their assistant coach to the role, so a great start for him. Games between the two usually produce goals but I am skeptical if this fixture this time around will produce a goal fest. Columbus will need Lucas Zelarayan ( 12.4M ) back this weekend to try and break this run of dreadful form. Darlington Nagbe ( 10.5M ) is an ever present this season who also has a goal and an assist to his name this season. Taxiarchis Fountas ( 5.6M ) in his first start for DC grabbed 2 goals and an assist and could be a great option again this weekend. Michael Estrada (5.7M) got the nod to lead the line last weekend and repaid that by grabbing himself a goal also. Could this be the future of this DC team under their new coach?
New England Revolution Vs Inter Miami - 00.30am BST (01/05/22)
New England and Miami are two teams that at the beginning of the season you would have thought this game would be a nail on home win. But since these two met in the reverse fixture a few weeks back when Miami won 3-2, Miami have since won 3 on the bounce and New England continue to struggle. New England had no problem scoring with Adam Buksa ( 13.7M ) 2 goals and Carles Gil ( 13.9M ) 3 goals being the main men for this New England team. However they can't keep the goals out at the other end. Leonardo Campana ( 6.8M ) since starting upfront in the absence of Gonzalo Higuain, which started in this game 3 weeks back has now got himself 4 goals, with a hat trick against this New England defense. DeAndre Yedlin ( 5.1M ) is an interesting option also with 3 assists this season. Tough game to call based on form but again goals look like being on the agenda here.
Orlando City Vs Charlotte - 00.30am BST (01/05/22)
Orlando 3rd in the Eastern Conference but have played 9 games and take on Charlotte who are 8th in the same conference after 9 games. Form suggests Orlando will win this as Charlotte have yet to get an away win so far this season and seem like a completely different team when they play away from home. Orlando will want to forget about last week's disappointing loss to the Red Bulls and I see them getting back to winning ways here. Pedro Gallese (9.2M) is a good option for goalkeeper this week but is a little more than I'd like to spend in that position. Joao Moutinho ( 8.6M ) could be an option to have in your defense instead or as well as if you see this game being one sided. Charlotte will need Karol Swiderski ( 6.3M ) to find his scoring boots to get something here and Swiderski has not found the net in the last 4 games.
Chicago Fire Vs New York Red Bulls - 01.00am BST (01/05/22)
An interesting game here to look at. New York sits 2nd in the Eastern Conference and got back to winning ways last weekend with a convincing win away to Orlando. Chicago on the other hand have not won in 4 games and haven't scored in 4 games either. They only have 5 goals all season but also have only conceded 5 too. 3 of those were last weekend away to Minnesota. Shaqiri ( 8.3M ) was back from injury last weekend but couldn't work his magic on his first game back, so will be looking to see what he can do to change Chicago's fortunes here. The Red Bulls seem to be sharing their goals between them but Lewis Morgan (8.2M) did add to his tally last week from the spot. Games between the 2 usually a close game and with both having good defensive records could provide some defensive points.
Sporting Kansas City Vs FC Dallas - 01.30am BST (01/05/22)
If Dallas were at home here I'd be telling you how you need to be getting their players into your line ups. However Dallas away from home isn't great. So despite being 4th in the Western Conference they have not won away from home yet this season. Sporting Kansas City are just not very good, they are 4 games without a win however there 2 wins this season have come at home. Last season in the 3 meetings between the 2 did result in the away team winning so maybe Dallas can grab their first away win of the season, and will be hoping they do to show they are a team to be afraid of this season. Remi Walter (8.6M) is fast becoming the main man that Sporting are needing to try and turn their season around. They could also do with Daniel Salloi ( 9.3M ) to get back into form to help improve their season. Dallas on the other hand have Jesus Ferreira (8.5M) who has 5 goals this season but hasn't scored in his last 2. Brandon Servania ( 7.3M ) is usually the man for the assists so is another option here for Dallas.
Colorado Rapids Vs Portland Timbers - 02.00am BST (01/05/22)
Another game where both teams have mixed form going into this game week. Portland sits 9th and Colorado 10th in the Western Conference. Portland however has played a game more. Colorado haven't won in their last 5 games but are undefeated at home. Portland haven't lost in there last 3 but haven't scored in there previous 2 games. Games between the two are usually close games too. William Yarbrough ( 8.9M ) could be an option if Portland continues to struggle in front of goal. Diego Rubio ( 11.4M ) will be needed to add to his 4 goal tally this season to ensure Colorado keep up their good form at home. A cheap keeper option this week is Aljaz Ivacic (5.5M) Colorado are not big scorers and could free up funds elsewhere in your teams. Portland will be looking to Yimmi Chara ( 7.1M ) to inspire Portland to continue their unbeaten run but to try and get the win here.
New York City Vs San Jose Earthquakes - 18.00pm BST (01/05/22)
NYCFC have scored 11 goals in 2 games and you would be silly to think they won't add to this again here. They are well and truly back and focused on retaining their title. Valentin Castellanos ( 14.5M ) has 5 goals in those 2 games and should have more if it wasn't for VAR. Thiago Andrade (14.1M) has found some form since getting into the starting line up and has 4 goals in 4 starts, which also coincides with New York's form changing. NYCFC faces a San Jose side who don't struggle to score goals but do struggle to keep them out. However they are on a 2 game unbeaten run and grabbed their first victory of the season last week in a thriller at home to Seattle. Jeremy Ebobisse (6.6M) has 5 goals in 4 games but wasn't on the scoresheet last weekend. That was left to Cristian Espinoza ( 6.5M ) who bagged himself a hat trick. Goals fully expected here with a NYCFC win to boost.
Nashville SC Vs Philadelphia Union - 21.00pm BST (01/05/22)
10 game weeks in and finally I get to say that Nashville played their first home game of the season in their brand new stadium. And fair play to them getting 11 points this time and sit 8th in the Western Conference. Nashville will be looking now to kick on and use home field advantage. They face a Philadelphia side who sit top of the Eastern Conference, however they are having a mini wobble and have not won in 2 games. So this is a hard game to predict, but I'm sure being the first game at their new stadium Nashville will be fired up for this. But Philadelphia could well come and ruin the party. Hany Mukhtar ( 9.1M ) is one of the talisman of this Nashville team, 2 goals and 2 assists to his name will I'm sure love playing in front of the home crowd this weekend. A surprisingly cheap option for goalkeeper, Joe Willis ( 7.1M ) has made 24 saves in 8 games and is the second best points scorer on FanTeam in this Nashville team. Philadelphia are potentially the best value on the slate this weekend. Daniel Gazdag ( 6.6M ) is one of my favorite DFS players in the current MLS season and is a great steal here if Philadelphia do indeed spoil the party. Someone with 4 goals this season shouldn't be this cheap. Julian Carranza ( 6.8M ) has 2 goals in 2 games and is usually the starter for Philadelphia however does not usually see the full 90 minutes which he has only completed once this season.
Los Angeles FC VS Minnesota - 03.00am BST (02/05/22)
If you have got this far and still have space in your team then this game could possibly make or break your weekend. This game does make for an interesting contest. LAFC are sitting top of the Western Conference with Minnesota sitting 5th in the same conference. However, LAFC have not beaten Minnesota in the last 5 meetings between the two. The last 3 meetings have been score draws. LAFC have not kept a clean sheet in their last 6 games. Minnesota have only failed to score once this season. Frustratingly LAFC do seem to be sharing the goalscoring throughout the team and I will not be playing Carlos Vela ( 14M ) as he has burnt me a few times this season, and at this price you can find better value and form elsewhere. Cue a Vela Hat Trick. Robin Lod (6.1M) is only 1 goal behind Vela in the standings with 3 goals for Minnesota this season and is key to this Minnesota team. As I stated, an interesting game to end the slate for game week 10.
