Aston Villa are interested in making a move to sign Kalvin Phillips this summer and Gabby Agbonlahor has told talkSPORT they are better choice than Manchester United.
The Leeds United midfielder is expected to be a hot property this summer after shining for England at last year's European Championship and establishing himself as one of the Premier League's top players.
Phillips is a transfer target for Aston Villa, according to talkSPORT's Gabby Agbonlahor
From a personal view, it's been a frustrating season for Phillips who has been limited to just 13 starts in the league this term due to injuries, however that hasn't stopped a number of clubs being linked with a move.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for the player, but according to Agbonlahor, Phillips may be more tempted by a move to Villa Park.
Asked about the United links on talkSPORT Breakfast, Agbonlahor said: "I don't think that Kalvin Phillips would do that.
"He's a big Leeds fan himself, I don't think he'd go to Manchester United and I'm hearing that maybe Aston Villa are in for Kalvin Phillips.
"I think that would be a better choice for him.
"Our owners are among the richest in the Premier League after the Newcastle and the Man City owners. Aston Villa and Wolves have very, very rich owners, so I'm sure that Kalvin Phillips would like to move from Leeds to Birmingham.
Phillips looks set to attract some substantial interest this summer
"It's a great place, Birmingham."
As far as Villa are concerned, it's going to be a busy summer.
Steven Gerrard is looking forward to shaping the team with his vision in mind, and according to Agbonlahor, signing a defensive midfielder is a top priority.
He said: "Gerrard's gone in there and he's probably still looking at players and thinking, 'you know what, in the summer you can go'.
Gerrard has big aspirations for Aston Villa in the summer transfer market
"He needs to bring in a centre-half, another striker, another defensive midfielder because if you put someone like Declan Rice in that midfield, they're a completely different team.
"They're missing that midfielder, a [Yves] Bissouma, that's what he'll be looking at in the summer.
"There will be players in that squad who, when the season finishes, Gerrard will say to them not to come back because they're not good enough."
