Ralf Rangnick has been told to 'pipe down' by Jamie O'Hara after the Manchester United interim manager outlined his drastic suggestions for English football.

The festive fixture pile-up has been called into question by managers and players

as clubs struggle to cope with recent COVID-19 outbreaks.

The German is not impressed with the scheduling in this country

Just four weeks after arriving at Old Trafford, Rangnick insists Premier League clubs should not compete in the Carabao Cup, while also asking for FA Cup replays to be scrapped.

"England is the only top league that plays two cup competitions. In France they abolished the second one," Rangnick said.

"This is something we could speak about and discuss. The League Cup is still kept for the third and fourth division teams to improve the financial situations of those clubs. But in a tight calendar with too many games, this is something to speak and discuss.

"The other thing is the FA Cup and the replays. That's been changed and that's a good thing. In other countries you never have replays, those are topics we could speak about."

The German, who will join the United board as a director when the season ends, also called for the reintroduction of five substitutes.

United play three times in eight days over Christmas and New Year

He said: "England is the only country where they don't allow five substitutes. It was decided every team could substitute five players when COVID started 18 months ago.

"I think it was the right decision to have more options to change players and save energy especially if they have only just recovered from COVID.

"The same is true right now. We are in a similar situation to the one we were in one-and-a-half years ago, and I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be the same."

But former Tottenham midfielder O'Hara was not impressed.

O'Hara questions what entitles Rangnick to go against years of tradition after such little time in English football.

O'Hara was left raging at Rangnick's comments

"The fixture pile-up is the fixture pile-up! It hasn't changed, it is what it is," he told talkSPORT.

"Who's this Ralf Rangnick geezer? Who is he?

"He's been here two minutes and all of a sudden he's dictating what's going on and what we should do over here. He needs to get back in his box.

"He's an interim manager telling us the Carabao Cup is not even worthy.

"He's got a lot to say for himself, hasn't he? He needs to pipe down."
