Luis Suarez had the Anfield return from hell as Liverpool beat his Atletico Madrid side 2-0 in the Champions League.

Everything that could've gone wrong for the Reds legend did as he was booed before the match, yellow carded during it, while also having a goal disallowed just moments before being substituted by Diego Simeone.

This is the complete opposite to how Suarez would have wanted his Anfield return to go

But it's job done for the six-time European champions, who are through to the last-16

Suarez's yellow came for his protests against teammate Felipe being sent off following a challenge on Sadio Mane on the halfway line.

But take nothing away from Liverpool, who were good value for the win as first-half goals from Diogo Jota and Mane enough to see them through.

Their former player appeared to have brought Atleti back into it with a deflected striker but VAR came to Liverpool's rescue as Mario Hermoso, who was active in the attack, was shown to be offside just in the build-up.

The result sees Liverpool reach the last-16 and they will qualify as group winners with two matches to spare as they're an unassailable seven points ahead of second-placed Porto.

Jota put Liverpool in front on 13 minutes

And Mane scored Liverpool's second eight minutes later

Booed, booked and goal disallowed. A night to forget for Suarez
