Now that we are officially in the last 1/3 of the season, here are the updated BLITZ Power Rankings, as all teams were in action for Week 8!

#1 » JEFFERSON

RECORD: 7-0
LAST GAME:
W 34-9 @ Cedar Shoals
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #1

The Dragons finally got a D-I player back last week in Jordan Perry, but it was like tagging out with Malaki Starks, who has missed 2 games in a row. Luckily, Jefferson has a plethora of weapons so strong that they can still win easily without him, but it will be nice to see the whole band back together right before the playoffs.

#2 » RABUN COUNTY

RECORD: 6-1
LAST GAME:
W 45-14 vs Grovetown
NEXT GAME: @ Banks County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #2

Move over Deshaun Watson...Gunner Stockton has taken the top spot in state history in total TDs. He will put it so far out of reach in the next 8 games it won't even be possible for the foreseeable future. More importantly, the Wildcats got to substitute a guaranteed blowout over Riverside with this win over Grovetown. Yes, Grovetown wasn't that great of a team, but they were still large and a Class 6A opponent, so this is a win for Rabun to get yet another look at tougher competition.

#3 » STEPHENS COUNTY

RECORD: 6-1
LAST GAME:
W 37-0 vs Franklin County
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #3

The Indians got a big region win...as each region game will be absolutely crucial the rest of the way as they all have playoff implications. Stephens is getting its final BYE week to reassess before the final stretch of regular season games. This group is looking pretty good right now.

#4 » COMMERCE

RECORD: 4-2
LAST GAME:
W 28-20 @ Towns County
NEXT GAME: vs Franklin County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #5

The Tigers denied Towns County from its first-ever win in the series. It was a close one, but Commerce has a 1-2 punch in the backfield that can run on anybody. Commerce is suddenly 2-0 in region play and looking the part of a region title contender.

#5 » DAWSON COUNTY

RECORD: 3-3
LAST GAME:
W 52-21 @ Gilmer
NEXT GAME: vs West Hall
PREVIOUS RANKING: #6

Dawson County went from 0-3 to 3-3. Things are really looking up for the Tigers, who are 2-0 in 7-AAA and could make a run at the title and Cherokee Bluff. That season finale against North Hall is looking pretty intriguing as well...

#6 » TOWNS COUNTY

RECORD: 4-3
LAST GAME:
L 20-28 vs Commerce
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #4

After a 4-1 start, Towns is now 4-3. It's not time to get worried or anything, as these guys looked more than able to hold their own against the region's best in Commerce. Kyle Oakes passed 1,000 yards for a second straight season in the tough loss.

#7 » HABERSHAM CENTRAL

RECORD: 2-5
LAST GAME:
L 17-35 vs Dacula
NEXT GAME: @ Lanier
PREVIOUS RANKING: #7

The Raiders dropped their fourth straight. Things were looking pretty promising until the Stephens County loss, which kicked off this string of losses. It's still possible to gain a playoff spot, but would mean winning out in the last 3 is the only path.

#8 » WHITE COUNTY

RECORD: 2-5
LAST GAME:
W 42-0 @ West Hall
NEXT GAME: BYE
PREVIOUS RANKING: #8

Playoff hopes are still alive for White County with a 42-0 beatdown of West Hall. After a BYE week, the Warriors must win the next 2 at least (which are very winnable) to set up a big showdown with Cherokee Bluff in the regular season finale.

#9 » UNION COUNTY

RECORD: 2-4
LAST GAME:
W 36-14 vs Banks County
NEXT GAME: @ Elbert County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #10

Something to play for if you're Union County...a home playoff game. After wins over Riverside and Banks, the Panthers just need a win over Elbert next week to guarantee a home playoff game.

#10 » LUMPKIN COUNTY

RECORD: 2-4
LAST GAME:
L 7-37 vs North Hall
NEXT GAME: @ #6 Cherokee Bluff
PREVIOUS RANKING: #9

Lumpkin's 2-game win streak was snapped by Kevin Rochester and the Trojans. Look for no sympathy by Cherokee Bluff next week and former Lumpkin coach Tommy Jones.

#11 » BANKS COUNTY

RECORD: 1-5
LAST GAME:
L 14-36 @ Union County
NEXT GAME: vs #1 Rabun County
PREVIOUS RANKING: #11

The Leopards dropped a 22-point game to Union to move to just 1-5. Next up? Some team called Rabun County...
