The BLITZ Football Player of the Week Fan Vote collected 11,294 total votes, with Rabun County's Baxley O'Brien taking 3,827 to win the POW Fan Vote. BLITZ then named both Gunner Stockton (Rabun) and Dreylan Martin (Commerce) Co-POWs.
BAXLEY O'BRIEN - FAN VOTE
Baxley O'Brien came from Flowery Branch to Rabun County, and has fit like a glove. The senior tight end is showing his physicality and athleticism more and more as the season goes along. O'Brien hauled in 5 passes for 83 yards and a TD in the Wildcats' win over Grovetown. For the season, O'Brien has 312 receiving yards and 6 TDs, catching 24 passes, which is second most on the team. This is his first-ever BLITZ POW award.
Gunner Stockton earns back-to-back Player of the Week honors. This honor came with yet another 6 TD performance, but the historical aspect definitely is worth the honors as well. He needed just 3 TD to surpass Deshaun Watson for the most total TDs in state history. He did that on a 29-yard TD pass to Jaden Gibson, and now has moved Deshaun further back with each successive TD. The senior QB had 328 passing yards and 5 TD, adding 51 rushing yards with another TD. His 2021 season has seen him throw for 2,207 yards and 30 TD, and he's rushed for 507 yards and 7 TD. His accuracy is epic, as he has completed 68% of his passes and thrown just one interception. He is the current state leader in passing yards in Class 2A. This is Stockton's third POW award of the season and BLITZ record 18th of his career.
Commerce earned a key region win at Towns last Friday, and Dreylan Martin supplied most of the points. The senior clawed up 143 rushing yards and 3 TD, and added 6 tackles on defense in the 28-20 win. This is Martin's first POW award.
