Dana White insists he would never throw the first pitch at a baseball game after watching Conor McGregor strike out.

The former UFC two-weight champion threw the ceremonial first pitch at the Chicago Cubs' Wrigley Field and was met with derision as the ball sailed well wide.

McGregor was mocked online for his effort

McGregor is famed for the accuracy of his strikes inside the Octagon, but he fell somewhat short and nearly hit a fan in the crowd.

One fan compared it to 50 Cent's equally poor effort for the New York Mets in 2014, provoking the Irishman to speak out online.

As a Boston-native, UFC boss White is no stranger to baseball, yet he has always declined offers to throw the first pitch for fear of embarrassment.

He said on the Jim Rome Show: "Let me start here: Do you know how many times I've been asked to throw a first-pitch somewhere?

McGregor was back in the gym only a few weeks after surgery on his broken leg

"And I'll never do it. Never.

"Just like all those guys who think they can fight, guys think they can throw a baseball to home plate. It's a lot harder than it looks."

McGregor suffered a fractured leg at UFC 264 in his defeat to Dustin Poirier back in July and was expected to return to competition until 2022 at the earliest.

Although he insists he could well make a miraculous recovery before too long, White remains more realistic about the time frame for the UFC's biggest superstar to make his return.

"This kid needs to heal up," White added. "I don't know how fast that leg is going to recover.

"It's basically going to be all about when can he start kicking again and, more importantly, when can he start taking kicks again.

"That will determine when he fights again."
