Rodeo-goers learned again last week that if there are two performances of a one-go-round rodeo, it's best to go both nights.
Six of the eight events in the Dick Stull Memorial PRCA Rodeo were won during the Friday night performance as second-night riders and ropers knocked out first-night times and scores one after another.
It started in the bareback riding, with Jade Taton of Kersey and Keenan Hayes of Hayden posted the top two scores of 79.5 and 69 respectively. But on Friday night Luke Wozney of Powell, Wyo., rode a bronc named Make Your Move to an 81.5 score to take top money.
The story continued in steer wrestling when Dalton Burgener of Douglas, Wyo., bulldogged his steer in just 4.6 seconds. Riley Krassin of Casper bettered that time with 4.1. But on Friday night doggers shaved one whole second off of Burgener's time when Payden McIntyre got down in 4 seconds flat and, just moments later, Nick Guy of Sparta, Wisc., turned a blistering 3.5 seconds.
Team ropers and barrel racers were the only contestants to post Thursday night results that held up against Friday's onslaught. Pueblo duo Brice Ingo and Robby Hull, roping in third position, posted a time of 6.6 on Thursday. On Friday night Eric Mann of Aurora and Ryon Tittle of Pueblo made a run and matched the first place time for a tie, but no one could better that time.
In barrel racing, Lake Mehalic of Wellington, Colo., ran the barrels in just 17.64 seconds on Thursday night. All of the top four places were set on Thursday with Amy Jo Reisdorfer of Cheyenne managing a fifth-place time of 17.98 seconds.
Here are the top two money-winners in the remaining four events:
Ladies breakaway roping: Erin Johnson, Fowler, Colo., 3.00 sec.; Willow Nicholas, Baggs, Wyo., 3.40 sec.
Saddle bronc riding: Brody Wells, Powell, Wyo., 76.5 pts.; J.W. Meiers, Mills, Wyo., 67.5 pts.
Tie-down roping: Brandon Kammerzell, Eaton, Colo., 8.7 sec.; Zaine Mikita, Byers, Colo., 9.8 sec.
Bull riding: Matt Palmer, Claremore, Okla., 85.5 pts.; Clayton Savage, Banner, Wyo., 82.0 pts.
