Wallethub recently unveiled a report that ranked the 100 best cities for gamers in the United States. Irvine, California came in first followed by Austin, Texas. Detroit Michigan was ranked the worst city for gamers in the country.

Wallethub used 22 different key indicating factors to determine the best city for gamers on a 0-100 scale. This included gaming environment, internet quality and coverage, and gamer and developer opportunities, among other things.

Irvine, California scored a 73.63. The city ranked first in the country in gaming environment and internet coverage/quality. Irvine is also fifth in the U.S. in gamer and developer opportunities.

Detroit, Michigan received a 16.25, which was the worst score of all cities on the list. Detroit was last in gaming environment and second to last in internet coverage/quality. However, it was 45th in gamer and developer opportunities.

The Profit's Take:

I don't think many people would have guessed Irvine, California to be the number one city at first, but after you read the article it totally makes sense. California dominated this list. Six of the top ten cities alone are in California. It's no surprise since the gaming industry has quite a few roots in that state, but I don't expect that to be the case 5 or 10 years from now.
