Stewart Friesen, the driver of the No. 52 GEARWRENCH Toyota Tundra TRD Pro, is being transported to a local hospital, following a multi-truck accident in Saturday's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Talladega Superspeedway.
Friesen, who was running at the tail-end of the lead draft, slammed into the outside wall in turn three, after getting hooked in the left-rear quarter panel by Tyler Ankrum, who had just been tipped from the vehicle behind him.
That contact sent the No. 52 Toyota Tundra hurdling into the outside wall at full speed, with the right front corner of the vehicle taking the brunt of the impact, and causing heavy damage.
After climbing from his Halmar Friesen Racing entry, Friesen was visibly shaken, before the 40-year-old driver made his way to the ground, where he would get further assistance from the AMR Safety Team, and be brought to the infield care center, by ambulance.
Making a stop at the infield care center, it was then decided that the Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario native would be transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Being out of Saturday's 250-mile contest from Talladega Superspeedway after just 38 laps, Friesen would be credited with a 33rd-place finish, continuing a difficult stretch for him and Halmar Friesen Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
This is a developing story. Additional updates on the condition of Stewart Friesen - from the driver or from Halmar Friesen Racing - will be added to this story as an update.
