Within the first month of opening, over 1100 young readers have signed up for this year's free Summer Reading Challenge at Denbighshire's Libraries.
The challenge this year opened on the 8th of July and is themed around the power of play, sport, games and physical activity. It is named 'Ready, Set, Read!' and so far, 1132 of Denbighshire's young readers have signed up for the challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge has been running since 1999 and helps to improve children's reading skills and confidence over the summer holidays.
By participating in the challenge at their local library, young people will have the opportunity to explore new reading material, develop skills, and discover new interests.
The Summer Reading Challenge is run by the Reading Agency for children across the UK and is delivered in partnership with public libraries. In Wales, the bilingual Summer Reading Challenge is run with the support of Welsh Government and the Books Council of Wales.
Councillor Emrys Wynne, Lead member for the Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage said:
"It is so encouraging to see so many young readers sign up to this brilliant free challenge already, with the summer holidays only just taking place.
I am glad that the young people of Denbighshire are enjoying reading for pleasure, it is so important for their wellbeing and learning, and of course it is great fun".
