In Round 1 Group A qualifying on Saturday, Elliott misjudged his entry into Turn 7, while following behind Shane van Gisbergen. Elliott clipped the inside concrete barrier in Turn 7, which shot his car hard into the inside barrier for Turn 8. The No. 9 Hooters Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was destroyed in the impact. Elliott climbed from his car and was taken to the care center for evaluation.
