He would wind up playing for four different franchises in 11 seasons. For years, there was this steady debate on who was the top cover cornerback in the National Football League. The subjects were Darrelle Revis and Richard Sherman. The former will soon be receiving his Hall of Fame bust. He's one of three defensive backs, along with Ronde Barber and Ken Riley, that make up Canton's Class of 2023.
Sensational Start
Revis was the 14th overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, the former University of Pittsburgh standout enjoyed a storied 12-year career. In his first five seasons in the league, he totaled 18 interceptions, returning three for scores. He also came up with five fumble recoveries and an incredible 95 passes defensed in 77 regular-season contests.
In Week 3 of 2012, Revis suffered a knee injury that shelved him for the remainder of the season. He would later admit that he contemplated retirement. Instead, he was back the following year but in a different uniform as he was dealt to the Buccaneers. He started all 16 games, finished with 50 tackles and a team-high 11 passes defensed. Add in a pair of interceptions, one fumble recovery and two forced fumbles.

In 2014, the standout defensive back signed a one-year, $12 million deal with the New England Patriots (via Spotrac). Once again, he started all 16 games, to go along with three postseason contests. He led Bill Belichick's team with 14 passes defensed during the regular season. Revis had an interception in the AFC title game and a sack of Russell Wilson in the club's 28-24 Super Bowl XLIX victory over Seattle. There would be two more seasons with the Jets, followed by a brief stint with the Chiefs in 2017.
All told, his 11-year career would add up to 29 interceptions (3 returned for scores) and 12 fumble recoveries. He was a seven-time Pro Bowler and earned All-Pro honors four times.
