A joint effort of several law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest Wednesday of a man wanted by Greeley police for murder.
Eric Nshizirungu, 20, of Greeley, who was believed to have been staying in Fort Morgan, was the subject of a Special Enforcement Team operation for his capture. He was located and arrested without incident in the 300 block of East Platte Avenue.
Greeley police had indicated to Fort Morgan police that Nshizirungu may have been in the area where he was captured, Police Chief Loren Sharp said. He was wanted for the murder of a 23-year-old man stemming from a verbal argument. He faced charges for first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and felony menacing related to the shooting of the man.
A joint operation of Fort Morgan police, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office and the 13th Judicial District attorney's office resulted in Nshizirungu's capture. In addition to the charges out of Greeley, he was also wanted in Fort Morgan for failure to comply.
"We are happy to have been able to capture Nshizirungu without incident," Sharp said. "His actions over the past couple of years has shown that he is a very dangerous man. The City of Fort Morgan is a safer place tonight, with Nshizirungu in custody."
Since 2021, he had been arrested numerous times on felony charges, Sharp added. His prior arrests in the period include attempting to influence a public servant, felony selling of marijuana to a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, sexual assault, robbery, burglary, menacing from two separate home invasion robberies in Fort Morgan, and numerous other misdemeanor charges, police said.
"A special thanks goes out to our law enforcement partners that assisted in this arrest," Sharp said. "All of these officers did an outstanding job in capturing Nshizirungu safely, while maintaining the safety of our community members."
