Women's History and the emphasis on preschool brings back a flood of memories ofAnn K. Heiman.
Yes, my mother.
I know the school district has honored her by naming the school after her, but I think it would have been better to build a daycare in north Greeley on B Street.
Fifty years ago she started and ran a daycare before it became popular. I bet there are fifty year old kids who she helped.
She was a master at getting (convincing) Tointons and community people to support her mission. I should know. I was a high school student driving the bus. Guilt worked!
The best picture was when a fire hit the school building. They showed a tear-stained, smokey face vowing to keep going, and she did.
I am sure there are a lot of people who don't know the reason for the funny sounding German name for the school. I have not gone back to B street, but many memories associated with women's history and preschool happened there.
Don Heiman, Aurora
