To think that I am almost done my time at Global Calgary is insane. This week some of the staff were on holiday so my role and responsibilities changed.
On Monday I put out some feelers to poultry places about how Bird Flu can effect their prices. I also talked to AHS about the nitroglycerin spray shortage. They told me there wasn't a shortage despite Health Canada declaring a shortage so we didn't really believe them. A house also exploded today so we were busy covering that and figuring out how many stories we could make out of it. The Edmonton Police funeral also happened today so the crew watched the service for a bit.
Tuesday ending up being a very boring day I only sat in on the noon news. Then I went out with Gaby to film streeters about the grocery rebate. It was pretty cool that they trusted me to go get these interviews for the show especially because it was close to the 5 o'clock show when we went to go get these.
Wednesday started the busier portion of my week. Today I went along with Adam MacVicar to cover the Lions Park stabbing and what can be done help public safety on public transit. So we interviewed a couple C-Train riders before running into Austin Lee from CTV. So we hung around a chatted with them about everything, it was very interesting to see how all the reporters are friends and don't care if you work for a rival company. After that we went downtown for lunch and Adam wanted to make sure that not only I know this but that others know that he actually eats very healthy and his favourite snack is eating broccoli that he cut of the stem. So fun facts with Adam I guess. After that we went and interviewed someone from Alberta Transit Union to see what they want done to help improve public safety at C-Train stations. Once we got back to the station I emailed Calgary Board of Education to confirm that Sarah Jorquera the 15 year-old girl who was shot and killed went to Crescent Heights High School. So I got that confirmed at 5:01 and we were able to put that in the show.
Thursday ended up being a follow up with CBE about potential permissions to film at Crescent Heights High School. I never got an answer that day though. Then I emailed Jesse Furber who works with the Alberta Government to get confirmation about the new GDL program starting on April 1st. Then I went with Micheal King to help film Tomasia DaSilva's interview in regards to gift cards not working at Bed Bath and Beyond. After that I went to the Fire Grad on behalf of Adam to ask Fire Chief Dongworth questions about recruitment and the explosion. I also ran into this guy named Travis Neil there as well. Then both myself and the CTV camera guy got rejected by Mayor Gondek when we asked if we could ask her a question. Then she did an interview with Daily Hive so we me and this guy were pretty heartbroken by this. But it was pretty cool to introduce myself as Will Mandzuk from Global Calgary. Then I went back to the station and tried these pepperoni sticks that Adam kept raving about. They weren't that good. Then at 4:55 our network decided to check out for the day so we started the show with out a prompter and couldn't get any packs working. So Corus pulled the Lethbridge feed for us then switched it to Edmonton.

Friday then rolled around and it was another day talking to CBE and we finally got permission to show up and film the school giving out a statement regarding Sarah. After that I called to many grocery stores to film at their locations for Tuesday. None of them got back to me about allowing us but I tried not to take it personally. After that I went to World of Wheels with Norma Reid to see how she does her promotional stories. I also got the honour of carrying her purse around. That would make every "macho" guy there very uncomfortable. Because apparently that challenged their masculinity so I thought that was very funny. Then we took some photos and they made it onto the news, and we didn't have a network outage so we actually had shows go out which means we improved from the day before.
