Monday was a big day because I finally got to meet the head of the digital team at City, she gave me some great advice to further my Writing for the web and just my career in general. At this point in my experience I've started to realize that I really enjoy radio and digital way more than I thought, with that being said the team here at City loved my first article and they were even nice enough to publish it on the website! Big thanks to Alejandro who really helped a lot. It's such a great feeling to be involved at a station and get recognized for your work on a professional level, the amount of pride I have for my work has definitely skyrocketed for sure. After I finished posting for the web I was told that I could shadow a reporter at a protest, so I went there and got to interview lots of streeters, and take lots of photos for the web team. Once I Got back to the station I helped give more background info to the web team, once that was done my shift was already over. Going to report definitely makes time fly for sure!

Tuesday I recorded a few conferences for the radio to use and well done that I was able to write some script clips for them to use. I've definitely learned that any help is appreciated, so I try and stay doing something even if I'm not told. After that, I started a new web story on the first idea that I did last week because the digital team loves people-driven stories, so I put something together, at the same time it's important to get to angles of a story so I tried reaching out to numerous people to help advance my story, unfortunately, I wasn't able to get much of anything so I decided to put the breaks on that story for the day and focus on pitching a new story. For the rest of the day I just wrote lots and did a bunch of practice, and man on man the advance that I've received from the team has helped advanced my writing.

Wednesday I did much of the same, as I did a lot of practicing and reach out to a lot of people for interviews. Other than that there wasn't anything special about Wednesday which was good because I asked if I could do a morning reporter shift for Thursday, and honestly Chris was shocked I was seriously volunteering to be in at 4 am haha. Anyways he said yes.
Thursday was probably my favorite day because I liked waking up early and meeting the morning crew, and seeing operations through a different lens. I had the opportunity to work with 2022 SAIT grad Logan Stein, who was such a pleasure to meet because he knew exactly what I was going through and he gave me lots of great advice about everything news. It was interesting to see that Logan was the live radio reporter that morning, which was obviously very new to me but great to learn about. I and Logan covered the new Zellers opening at Sunridge, and after shadowing him for a bit he told me to write a pack on the story, so that is exactly what I did, and let me tell you that Burli is so easy to work with when it comes to editing like I enjoy the system now. With some help I was able to finish my first pack once Chris got in at 8, when his response was "did you write this" I was pretty surprised that he liked it so much. After that, Iand Logan headed to the opening which was a blast, not only to see Zellers back, but all the happy faces there that were super open for interviews, and honestly when and if you're shadowing a reporter if I could give any advice, even though they don't expect or ask you to help, just do it, even if it's just having your phone out to take photos for web or well Logan was sending in a live I was taking videos as much as possible, and getting so many random interviews. The tv crew wasn't there as it opened so because I was able to shoot the doors opening I was able to help out them get the best possible b-roll at the time. Just a side note, I haven't seen a single camera, which is obviously different for every station but it benefits me. Before leaving I definitely got the best interview out of the whole day, as I saw this nice Gentleman looking at Zellers from afar, I asked him if he was part of the media because it sure looked like it, anyways, once he told me he was reminiscing about his late mother because he used to eat at Zellers with her all the time as a kid, I knew his story had to be shared, and honestly, the amount of joy that interview gave me was nothing I had ever experienced in news to this point. Once we got back to the station it was already noon which felt crazy because it did not feel like 8 hours, but going home at that time definitely felt good, and honestly, morning reporting is really fun.

Friday I did lots of scripts and interviews for my story next week which is progressing really well, both for the web and radio, so I'm excited to see what next week brings and I can't believe I'm halfway there!
