Renowned Horse Racing Tipster and Journalist Ed Quigley, aka 'Longshot Ted' offers up his best bets for Saturday''s TV action, and picks out some of the other horses who have made him sit up and take note, on what should be a cracking weekend of sport.

It feels like it is very much calm before the storm, as we are now just days away from the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and the excitement levels are ramping up. Nonetheless we have some competitive action to enjoy, and some intriguing puzzles to try and solve.
Kelso's Morebattle Hurdle card has some quality racing with terrific prize money to get stuck into, and from an each-way point of view, I like the claims of the Sam Thomas trained DEERE MARK in the race itself (1.50). The 6-year-old was pulled-out on the morning of the Betfair Hurdle at Newbury three weeks ago on the account of the ground being too quick, but should have underfoot conditions much more to his liking here.
He arrives on a hattrick, and slotting in nicely off a mark of 125 he looks to have major claims. He should be suited by the big field with cut in the ground, and he can get in the mix at healthy odds.

COLONEL HARRY looks the each-way attack in the following race on the card, the Grade 2 Premier Novices Hurdle (2.25). The Jamie Snowden team are having a season to remember, and have been operating at almost a 40% strike-rate over the last couple of weeks.
The Lambourn handler will have a nice team of horses for the Cheltenham Festival, but in the meantime looks to have a good chance of enhancing his prolific season by taking this assignment. A winner of two of his four starts over Hurdles, he bolted up at Newcastle last time out, and previous to that had finished fourth to Tahmuras in the Tolworth.
That in itself is smart form, and he was only just under two-lengths behind Nemean Lion who he re-opposes today. Colonel Harry is around twice the price of the Kerry Lee representative to land the odds this time around, and with that confidence booster under his belt, Colonel Harry can get in the mix.

NELLS SON (3.00) has an unblemished record at the venue, winning on both previous to the track, including last season's Premier Novice Hurdle on this card. He didn't take to Chasing, but shaped with plenty of encouragement when sixth in a hot looking Handicap Hurdle at Cheltenham on Trials Day.
He has had a wind operation since, and has been eased to an official mark of 135. Stepping back up in trip, underfoot conditions should be spot on for him, and the gelding is more than capable of bouncing back to winning ways in this company with Danny McMenamin in the saddle.
The Premier Chase at Kelso (3.35) looks a golden opportunity for the Dan and Harry Skelton combination to get the job done with LE MILOS to continue his winning thread. A winner of both starts since he joined this yard, his form has gone to new levels. He was last seen plundering a big prize at Newbury last November and will be taking in this assignment en route to having a crack at the Aintree Grand National. He is versatile in regards to ground, jumps and stays, and can make his class tell in calmer waters here, with the biggest threat on paper, Zanza likely to head to Newbury.
Bet on Nells Son at BetVictor
At Newbury (2.10), WHATSUPWITHYOU can go well for the in-form Ben Pauling team. The 9-year-old has been struggling on Soft ground lately, and despite that, still ran with plenty of credit when fifth at Kempton last December. Eased to a mark of 119, he is now 1lb lower than winning at Uttoxeter last season. Quicker conditions will be much more in his favour here, and can easily get involved in the shake-up with Luca Morgan doing the steering.
I am going to roll the dice one final time with SPORTING JOHN (3.15) in Doncaster's Grimthorpe Chase. He looks to have gone a bit sour but let's not forget he is a former Grade 1 winner over fences who is running off 141 in a Handicap Chase.
Off that mark he is absolutely lobbed in on old form. The Philip Hobbs team are in much better form than they have been for some time, and if the first-time blinkers have the desired effect, he could easily come storming back to his best. His jumping went to pieces in a big field in a frenetically run contest at Ascot last time out. Aidan Coleman makes the journey to the Yorkshire venue, and he wouldn't be without a shout if he can show his old zest.

With the aforementioned Cheltenham Festival on the horizon, we are starting to get a clearer picture of how it is all shaping up. The Mares' Hurdle is shaping up into one of the races of the meeting, and I still think at 6/1, BRANDY LOVE has outstanding claims and is still fair value to serve it up to the 'Queen Of Ireland', Honeysuckle.
Brandy Love shaped as though she desperately needed the run at Punchestown on her belated seasonal reappearance. She will come on a bundle for that run, a return to a left-handed track will suit, and will be primed to the minute. She was electric when dismantling Love Envoi at Fairyhouse last season and I think she has cracking claims of winning on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.
