I do wish they would stick with one artist through the run, but I guess thats just how modern comics are. Lanzing and Kelly, really get the characters and this is as good as any of the modern live action TV shows.

I've always been a fan of Nimrod, after he was introduced in the 80s, and this issue looks like he's finally fulfilling his potential as a nemesis for the mutants.

In the first MEANWHILE... for a few weeks, I thought I'd take the opportunity to highlight some events coming soon from those fine folks over at 2000AD. One of the events is taking place here in Birmingham and the others at various locations across the county.

Best of 2000AD Volume 2 Signing and Talk

Kicking things off is a signing and talk to mark the release of the second volume of the Best of 2000AD series. Charlie Adlard (X-FIles, The Walking Dead, Damn Them All), Al Ewing (Zombo, X-Men: Red, The Immortal Hulk), INJ Culbard (Brass Sun, Brink, In The Mountains of Madness) and Owen Johnson (Beast Wagon, Raygun Roads, Reel Love) will be in attendance to sign and answer questions in a talk hosted by local legend Olly MacNamee (Comicon).

I Am The Law Signing

Also happening on Saturday 11th February, at Gosh! Comics in London, is the first event in a signing tour by Michael Molcher for his new book, I Am The Law: How Judge Dredd Predicted Our Future. Michael knows a thing or two about everyones favourite lawman of the future, thanks to his work as the Brand Manager for 2000AD. I Am the Law, sees Molcher delve into the strip's incredible foresight, and how it predicted some of the policing policies in the 21st century.

He is the law – and you better believe it! Judge, jury and executioner, Judge Dredd is the brutal comic book cop policing the chaotic future urban jungle of Mega-City One, created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra and launching in the pages of 2000 AD in 1977. But what began as a sci-fi action comic quickly evolved into a searing satire on hard-line, militarised policing and 'law and order' politics, its endless inventiveness and ironic humour acting as a prophetic warning about our world today – and with important lessons for our future. Blending comic book history with contemporary radical theories on policing, I Am The Law takes key 'Dredd' stories from the last 45 years and demonstrates how they provide a unique wake up call about our gradual, and not so gradual, slide towards authoritarian policing. From the politicisation of policing to 'zero tolerance', from violent suppression of protest to the rise of the surveillance state, I Am The Law examines how a comic book warned us about the chilling endgame of today's 'law and order' politics.

The tour then continues at other locations across the country starting at OK Comics in Leeds, then other comic shops and book stores, including at stop at Worlds Apart Birmingham on Saturday 25th February.
