Oliver Skipp netted his first Tottenham goal to give them the lead just before half-time, before Hakim Ziyech's red card was overturned by VAR following an altercation with Emerson Royal.
Harry Kane later turned in an Eric Dier flick at the back post on 82 minutes, as Spurs secured all the three points.
It meant Chelsea have only managed two wins in their last 15 matches in all competitions. The Blues have also scored the fewest number of goals among Premier League sides since November, netting just six times in 16 games.
Potter, though, believes he needs time, drawing comparisons to Arsenal's Mikel Arteta and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
He was later asked post match if he still has support from owner Todd Boehly following the loss.
"Well, there's always that question, absolutely. And you can't stop the questions. And while the results are like they are, I accept them - it's part of the job," he said.
The former Brighton boss is under serious pressure at Chelsea
"We were talking before the game about watching All or Nothing and Arsenal, two years into Mikel's reign he's close to getting the sack and people are wanting him out and it's a disaster. And now things have changed a little bit - and that's just the way it is.
"If you look at Jurgen's situation - they haven't got results and all of a sudden people want him out, that's just the nature of football.
"Obviously, I haven't done enough at this club to have too much good faith, and I also accept that.
"My job is not to worry too much about that, to understand the question and where it comes from, totally, and to focus on keep helping the team and keep supporting the players, because I really like these players.
"They're good lads and they want to win, but at the moment we're suffering - and that's my responsibility."
Chelsea are languishing in 10th, 14 points adrift of Tottenham in fourth, and are actually closer to bottom place Southampton.
They host Leeds on Saturday, and another defeat could spell the end for Potter.
