Danny Murphy has revealed how his deadline day move to Fulham almost fell through like Hakim Ziyech's failed PSG switch.
The Chelsea star saw his deadline day move to PSG scuppered after issues surrounding documents pertaining to his move to the Parc des Princes.
Hakim Ziyech will continue at Chelsea for the remainder of the season
Ziyech completed his medical and all other media duties in the French capital ahead of his unveiling but the deal fell through as the paperwork was not filed on time.
PSG claim Chelsea sent unsigned documents on numerous occasions and the signed version arrived three minutes too late, while the Blues blame technical problems with Ligue 1's computer system.
PSG's appeal was rejected on Thursday morning by French football's governing body meaning the 29-year-old heads back to Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the season.
The saga sparked memories of a deadline day move that almost fell through for talkSPORT's Murphy.
The former midfielder had just completed a move from Tottenham to Fulham – or so he thought.
"I was driving away from Fulham's training ground when I moved there from Tottenham and I got a phone call at about 11.30," Murphy recalls.
Danny Murphy faced a late scramble to push through his Fulham move in 2007
"Some of the paperwork hadn't been signed. I hadn't signed one of the bits of paper that needed to be signed.
"So someone had missed it and the deal wasn't done. I had to spin and get back to the Fulham training ground but I did it with ten minutes to go."
Despite a stressful end to evening for Murphy, it was all smiles as he made his move to Craven Cottage.
Ziyech faces a battle on his hands to convince Chelsea boss Graham Potter to play him
The same can't be said for Ziyech whose future looks bleak following Chelsea's blockbuster transfer window.
The opportunity to reignite his career in Paris has slipped through his grasp and Murphy has plenty of sympathy for the Chelsea forward.
He added: "Imagine you've lost out on a move because someone messed up the paperwork. He must be absolutely livid."
