Have you ever wondered what the Beatles, Beach Boys, Animals, or the Monkees would sound like in these modern days? These are bands that took rock 'n' roll into a pop light, changing the face of music forever. These are the bands that shook the world! Since then, many bands worldwide have followed their path to bring a revolution in the music industry. In this mission, some succeeded, and some failed.
Among the ones who have been successful in beautifully reviving the hype of these bands is The Cherry Drops. It is the embodiment of the "Retro-Pop" sound. The band has its unique way of reaching the hearts of generations while being in the power pop and garage rock genre. Even the lyrics used to match the generation's wildest interests. In addition, the tracks the band launches are super addicting for their fans.
The band is the result of four creative minds, Vern Shank - the lead singer and founder of the band - Jimmy Mason, Josh Cobb, and Jamie Markowski. It was formed in 2011, and the name of the band was inspired by 1960s and 1970's bands, mainly Strawberry Alarm Clock, The Lemon Pipers, and Raspberries. The Cherry Drops are influenced by 60's bands such as The Beach Boys, The Beatles, The Archies, The Grass Roots, The Lovin' Spoonful, and The Buckinghams, along with 70's artists including Raspberries, Bad Finger, Cheap Trick, Big Star, and others.
The Southern California-based band, The Cherry Drops, is one true band that finds its roots back to the fifth-generation garage rockers. As a result, its original material draws not only its inspiration from the best of garage rock but the surf, easy listening, glam rock, and punk/new wave, as well. Led by their ambitious frontman, Vern Shank, the Cherry Drops made their recording debut with a collection of originals and duly inspired covers that swear by their great promise of reviving pop music in the modern generation.
The Cherry Drops assert themselves most decisively by taking on one of the first-generation garage rock's definitive masterpieces, the Syndicate of Sound's 1966 monster classic, Little Girl (Bell 640). Not only do the Cherry Drops nail all of their most endearing attributes, but their addition of sympathetic vocal harmonies at key points underscores how well the band understands the subtle nuances of the material.
In the summer of 2015, their 14-song sophomore album Life is a Bowl of Cherry Drops was released with veteran musicians Steve Boone of the Lovin' Spoonful and Tony Valentino of the Standells. The third album, Good To The Last Drop, was released in the winter of 2018. The Cherry Drops were joined on the album by the talented Steve Boone of The Lovin' Spoonful, Mark Dawson of The Grass Roots, Ron Dante of the Archies, Dennis Tufano of The Buckinghams, and the late Gary DeCarlo of Steam.
The band's songs are astonishingly catchy and amplified by their music genre's humor. When the audience listens to these songs, they get amazed and nod along with their rhythms. In addition, the band's fans are addicted to seeing them perform live, and the band knows very well how to get the audience foot-tapping and mesmerized by their chorus. Their combination of drums, keys, bass, guitar, vocals, and backing vocals is truly magnificent. Each part brings a new life to the words the band delivers and easily carries the space between the lyrics.
The Cherry Drops has skillfully brought back the sound of the lost generation to people living in this era. With the band's exceptional skills, there is no room to be bored.
