A local youth football team heads to Florida this weekend for the Pop Warner Super Bowl.
The Weld County Bears 10U team plays on Sunday and Wednesday for a shot at the national championship. It features young players from Greeley and the surrounding communities.
Known as the Pop Warner Super Bowl, the Bears will play in a tournament format for the Division I title. They must win the first two games to advance to the championship on Dec. 10.
Weld County won the Colorado state championship earlier this month at the University of Northern Colorado, defeating the Colorado Springs Vikings, 32-6.
They won the regional semifinals and championship in the following weeks. The Bears beat Holy Cross 34-0 in the Southwest Region game on Nov. 19.
Now, the team travels to Orlando, Florida, for the Pop Warner Super Bowl in hopes of bringing a championship to northern Colorado.
The Bears are fundraising for the trip to offset the cost for their families. Those who cannot provide financial support are encouraged to watch the games on FloSports.
