Earlier this month, Steam broke the record for concurrent players with over 30 million users. According to SteamDB, 30,032,005 users were online on October 23rd, marking a new all-time peak.
With 1.05 million players at the time, CS:GO was the most played game during this peak. Dota 2 came in second place with 750,000 players followed by PUBG: Battlegrounds in third place with 440,000 players. Apex Legends and Lost Ark rounded out the top five.
The number of Steam users has been growing since the COVID-19 Pandemic began. In fact, the previous peak concurrent player count was under 30 million people last March.
This points to a failure by Epic Games to make a serious dent in the game store market. We have more game stores and launchers than ever, yet Steam continues to be on the rise. Imagine how many players Steam would have if they were ACTUALLY still making games. It's also worth noting that the Steam Deck is continuing to gain traction. That should've been the headline of the article in my opinion. Epic Games has NO CHANCE to beat Steam if they don't build their own hardware. Why would I buy a game anywhere else if there's even a 1% chance that I play that game on my Steam Deck?
