A stretch of 5th Street in north Greeley now has new concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters after the completion of a city project.
In the summer, crews began removing old, damaged and outdated sidewalks along 5th Street between 14th and 23rd avenues to replace them with updated infrastructure.
"I really want to say 'thank you' to everyone," Public Works Director Paul Trombino said in a city news release announcing the project's completion. "I can't thank the team enough. The work the city and Naranjo staff did to improve this important corridor and work with the neighborhood through this construction helped make this project so successful."
City officials and Naranjo Civil Constructors celebrated the success of the project with a ribbon-cutting Monday. Naranjo Civil Constructors extended an invitation to Billie Martinez Elementary School, whose students and families will benefit from a safe, new path to the school. School staff, business owners and residents attended the ceremony to celebrate the neighborhood improvements.
"We were honored to be selected to build the work for the program, and we sincerely appreciate the cooperation the residents of 5th offered to us," Naranjo Civil Constructors President Jerry Naranjo said. "We know that many families in this area were impacted during construction."
The company donated two computers to the school and provided each of the school's 21 classrooms with a bag of books. It also brought a mini excavator and a dump truck to the school for the students to see.
"We want to thank Naranjo and the city of Greeley for the books and computers, as well as creating a safe walking path to school for many of our students," Billie Martinez Principal Monica Draper said.
The project was funded by the Keep Greeley Moving program and the Greeley Urban Renewal Authority.
