The BLITZ Fan Vote for Girls Basketball Player of the Week saw 37,292 votes come in, with Emma Lightsey (White County) taking the most at 13,372. BLITZ then named both Mary Mullinax (Lumpkin County) and Ellie Southards (Rabun County) as Co-POW.
EMMA LIGHTSEY - WHITE COUNTY
Emma Lightsey is just one of several playmakers on White County's team. The #6 Lady Warriors are overflowing with next-level talent, and the sophomore shooting guard Lightsey had a big week across 2 games. She averaged 16.5 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals per contest while shooting 44% from long range. This is Lightsey's first POW award.
MARY MULLINAX - LUMPKIN COUNTY
The reigning BLITZ Player of the Year and State Champion Mary Mullinax is leading the charge for #2-ranked Lumpkin County early on. The senior forward averaged 23.5 points, 7 boards, 5.5 assists, 3.5 steals, and had 14 total deflections in a pair of games for the Lady Indians last week. This is Mullinax's second POW award of her career.
ELLIE SOUTHARDS - RABUN COUNTY
Junior Ellie Southards missed all of last season due to an injury. Imagine the 'what if' for the State Runner-Up Lady Wildcats had she been on the court. The small forward got her junior season off to a fantastic start with a 30-point performance that included shooting a ridiculous 65% from the floor in #4-ranked Rabun County's first game of the year. This is Southards' first POW award.
