BARMM News  Short link: https://wp.me/paaccn-npZ COTABATO CITY (SDN) -- The Bangsamoro Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education (MBHTE) counted itself in in the efforts to respond to the impact of Typhoon Paeng in Maguindanao province and other areas. As this developed, of the latest updates from the MBHTE headed by Minister Mohagher M. Iqbal showed that a total of 2,595 schools in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MBHTE) have already suspended classes to give way to cleaning of debris from Typhoon Paeng and repair of many damaged schools. They are: - Cotabato City – 22 schools
- Maguindanao I – 36 schools
- Maguindanao II – 91 schools
- Special Geographic Area (SGA)– 34 schools
- Sulu – 17 schools
- Madaris (Islamic schools) – 49
Iqbal's office said the MBHTE is also distributing relief assistance to its affected constituents, including learners, their families, and school personnel for whom the ministry will prioritize giving support to. It was learned the MBHTE has under its wings some 22,000 teachers.  Planning response to Typhoon Paeng's impact. "As per report from the DRRM (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management) Coordinators, 49 madaris/Islamic schools and three (3) higher education institutions were also severely damaged by the typhoon. (A total of) 2,595 schools in the Bangsamoro Region have already declared class suspension as cleaning and repairs will take place in the next few days before the implementation of the full face-to-face classes in November," the MBHTE said. As this developed, the MBHTE's Education Support Division (MSD), together with BARMM line agencies and partners, participated in the Rapid Disaster Assessment and Needs Analysis set up yesterday, October 30, by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) of the regional government.  Reports on the status of the emergency have been gathered to assess and identify immediate actions needed. As the lead agency in the Education Sector in the BARMM, the MBHTE "is working with other government officials in continuously developing response plans for every child, family, school personnel, and schools affected." Established in 2018 by the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) to implement the 2014 Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB), the autonomous region — with a parliamentary government — is made up of the provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, the cities of Cotabato, Lamitan, and Marawi, as well as the Special Geographic Area (SGA) of 63 barangays or villages that voted "yes" in a plebiscite in January and February 2019 to be under the BARMM jurisdiction. The BARMM population per the Philippine Atlas has 4,404,288 people. It has 116 municipalities: Basilan, 11 municipalities; Lanao del Sur, 39; Maguindanao, 36; Sulu, 19; and Tawi-Tawi, 11. Its component cities are Cotabato (the regional center and capital) in Maguindanao; Lamitan in Basilan; and Marawi in Lanao del Sur. (/) |
