The six participating teams are owned by IPL franchises and they have also got some prominent signings, three teams have already announced their five acquisitions as a part of the direct-acquisition process. Graeme Smith is the commissioner of the SA20 league in July 2022. He admitted that this is South Africa's other attempt of creating a T20 event after multiple failures.
"We selected a name for its simplicity and something that can be uniquely ours as we enter this new and exciting phase of cricket in South Africa. We hope it's something people will enjoy and want to be a part of because it's been a joy for us to create it."
the former skipper of South Africa hinted at a probability of the Women's version of the league but due to the ICC Women's World Cup 2023 taking place in SA, the process may be delayed.

CSK- owned Johannesburg Super Kings- Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, Romario Shepherd, and Gerald Coetzee are going to be apart of the team.
RSPG Group-owned RSPG Durban- Quinton de Kock, Jason Holder, Kyle Mayers, Reece Topley, and Prenelan Subrayen have been signed so far.
Reliance Industries owned MI Cape Town- Rashid Khan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, and Dewald Brevis to play be a part of the team.
Paarl Royals, the sister franchise of Rajasthan Royals have signed four players- Jos Buttler, David Miller, Obed McCoy, and Corbin Bosch.
Petoria Capitals- Anrich Nortje and Migael Pretorius are the two players who have been part of the team.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape - This team features Aiden Markram and Ottniel Baartman.
