Startup company Viture has raised over $2.4 million on Kickstarter for its Viture One mixed reality glasses, $20,000 more than its goal. In just one month, the San Francisco-based company raised more money than the original Oculus Rift, which had $2.43 million in pledges.
The Viture Ones have received more than 4,000 backers, with a minimum pledge requirement of $429. While the donation floor might sound high, all backers will receive the actual product as a thank-you upon completion of the fundraising cycle. Viture plans on shipping the first units out in October.
The glasses are designed to look like normal sunglasses, with two lenses that combine to form a 120-inch, 1080p virtual screen. The lenses also contain an electrochromic film that adjusts depending on the environment.
The glasses can even be adjusted to suit the needs of the near and far-sighted via a dial on the top.
Console games can be streamed from anywhere using Wi-Fi or cellular, and will support both Xbox and PlayStation controllers. PC games can also be streamed using apps like Steam.
And since the Viture One runs on Android, Apple TV, Disney+, and HBO Max will come preinstalled as an added bonus.
