Euro 2020 champions Italy will take on Copa America 2021 champions Argentina in the Cup of the Champions, named Finalissima. This is the third time that the Champions of Europe will take on the Champions of South America. The Finalissima is the rebranded form of the CONMEBOL-UEFA Cup of Champions, also known as the European/South American Nations Cup as well as the Artemio Franchi Cup.
The last two times, the Champions of Europe took on the Champions of South America, the results were:
- In 1985, France beat Uruguay 2-0 at the Parc des Princes in Paris
- In 1993, Argentina beat Denmark 5-4 in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in Mar del Plata
The honours are even between Europe and South America, both winning once. Tonight Italy will face Argentina for the first time since 2018 when they lost the friendly match 2-0.
