Casey Jones may have driven that train high on cocaine, but soon fans of the Grateful Dead will have a different substance they can buy to celebrate the band.
Garcia Hand Picked cannabis makes its Colorado debut this week with three strains of flower apt for pairing with live music. Good timing: The launch coincides with The Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on June 29, when the Colorado Symphony will play hits from the iconic jam band in honor of what would be Garcia's 80th birthday later this year.
As of that date, fans too can take a hit of Garcia Hand Picked flower, grown locally by Veritas Fine Cannabis. The company is rolling out a sativa strain called Morning in Marin, an indica strain called After Midnight and a hybrid called Love in the Afternoon. They'll be available for sale in pre-packaged eighths and as pre-rolls at dispensaries along the Front Range.

Mike Leibowitz, founder and CEO at Veritas Fine Cannabis, said he couldn't puff, puff, pass on the opportunity to grow Garcia-inspired cannabis.
"When I first learned about potential opportunity I almost fell out of my chair," Leibowitz said. "To be able to represent something of that legendary status is a hippie's wet dream."
Veritas worked with Holistic Industries, which owns the brand and collaborates with Garcia's daughters, Trixie Garcia, Annabelle Garcia and Sunshine Kesey. Colorado is the fifth state where the brand has launched, behind California, Maryland, Massachusetts and Oregon.
"Jerry loved Colorado because of the people," Trixie Garcia said in a statement. "Colorado has long been a mecca for high-minded, freedom-loving nature enthusiasts and those are our people."
Though Veritas is starting with three strains, it plans to "build a war chest of a dozen or so" strains in the future, Leibowitz said. Garcia Hand Picked gummies will also soon be available in Colorado through a partnership with Veritas' sister concentrate company, Olio, he added. A release date is still to be determined.
Bertha, an Airstream trailer, will be posted up at Red Rocks Ampitheatre pedaling Garcia Hand Picked merch and more during The Jerry Garcia 80th Birthday Symphonic Celebration on June 29.
Deadheads attending the June 29 concert can stop by the lower north parking lot at Red Rocks, where Garcia Hand Picked's Airstream trailer called Bertha will be pedaling merch. There may also be marijuana samples available there, Leibowitz said with a wink, wink, nudge, nudge.
Jerry Garcia is just the latest celebrity to have his legacy immortalized in Colorado with a weed brand. Last year, rapper Method Man launched TICAL flower and followed up recently with concentrates and edibles. Country legend Willie Nelson has various products under his Willie's Remedy brand. UPDATE June 29 at 4:52 p.m.: Due to a reporting error, this story incorrectly stated Colorado was the fourth state where Garcia's Hand Picked is available. It is the fifth.
