Corentin Tolisso is set to join Lyon on a free transfer after leaving Bayern Munich, upon the expiry of his contract. The midfielder will be returning to his boyhood club, since he is an academy graduate of Lyon and moved to Bayern in 2017.
However, he was unable to become a regular owing to competition from other players and injuries. The player is in Lyon to sign his contract later today, and is also expected to complete his medical assessment ahead of the move back to Ligue 1.
Corentin Tolisso returns to Lyon
It is reunion season for the French side, since Alexandre Lacazette also returned to the club following his spell at Arsenal. The striker has been officially announced by the club, and it is only a matter of time before Tolisso's is made official too.
The midfielder suggested that even though Julian Nagelsmann wanted to keep him, he wasn't able to get his way due to the wishes of the board.
"We didn't play a great season. I don't think the coach had enough say yet to be able to say: 'I want to keep this player' - I understand the club's decision. From my point of view too, it's good to change air and start a new cycle," Corentin Tolisso said. "(Nagelsmann) gave me confidence. I was playing regularly under him and then I got injured, I think that played a role. There's the coach's opinion and then the people in charge."
