Conor McGregor was involved in perhaps the funniest MMA blooper of all time ahead of UFC 257 on Fight Island, all thanks to Max Holloway.
The former featherweight champion, who hopes to regain the 145lb this weekend when he takes on Alexander Volkanovski for a third time at UFC 276 this weekend, inadvertently derailed one of McGregor's pre-fight interviews.
'Notorious' was talking to UFC Arabia ahead of his second fight with Dustin Poirier
'Notorious' was previewing his fight with Dustin Poirier when you see him become visibly distracted by something going on out of camera shot.
"That looked like Max Holloway going by on a skateboard," McGregor said.
The interviewer then confirms that 'Blessed' is on Fight Island and had been skateboarding a lot before McGregor clicks that it was actually his former opponent who flew past and derailed his interview.
"That was Max Holloway on a skateboard. That's brilliant [laughs]," he added before jumping back into fight talk.
Conor McGregor beat Holloway back in 2013
Holloway spent a few extra days on Fight Island after beating Calvin Kattar
Holloway and McGregor fought during their early days in the UFC all the way back in 2013 at featherweight and 'Blessed' now fears he'll never at a second crack at the Irishman.
At the time of their first fight, 'Notorious' was much further along in his MMA development, and it showed as he dominated Holloway on the feet before suffering a torn ACL.
The fight then changed, and the former Cage Warriors double champion wrestled his way to a decision win in Boston, much to his disappointment.
McGregor went on to capture UFC belts at two weights and make a ridiculous amount of money in the process.
McGregor is the biggest star in MMA history
Holloway became a champion at 145lbs
Holloway became a featherweight champion and established himself as one of the best 145lb fighters of all-time.
A rematch seems to make all the sense in the world, but the Hawaiian is not convinced McGregor will ever fight again after suffering a catastrophic leg injury at UFC 264 in July 2021.
"You know, with all this Conor talk and saying whatever, he never even committed to coming back. He never even once said he'd come back, and rightfully so. He shouldn't," he told ESPN.
"Conor's what everybody wants to be. Everybody wants to get in this fight game, make the money and then save your chickens.
"I wouldn't even blame him if he didn't want to come back. If he wants to come back, that's his competitive side straight doing it."
McGregor has been out of action since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier
'Blessed' hopes to regain the featherweight title in a trilogy fight with Alexander Volkanovski this weekend
'Mystic Mac' is currently working his way back to full fitness and has announced his intention to make a comeback at the end of 2022.
McGregor has plenty of options ahead of his return with fights against the likes of Charles Oliveira, Michael Chandler, Jorge Masvidal, and even Floyd Mayweather all on the table.
Holloway has the chance to become a two-time UFC featherweight champion this weekend, but he has always flirted with a move to lightweight – McGregor's best division.
The 30-year-old stepped up to 155lbs in 2019 for an interim title fight against Dustin Poirier but fell short after five rounds of war before dropping back down in weight.
An intense rivalry with Volkanovski has since ensued and kept him at 145lbs for longer than many expected.
Win, lose or draw at UFC 276, we may well see Holloway jump up in weight after this weekend and move one step closer to a potential rematch with McGregor.
