I personally do not believe that google is a media company, I believe that way because I don't see google as a source of media. When you think of google you generally think of it as a place to get your information or answers to your questions without having to look for and contact an expert in those fields. An example would be looking for the answer to how many ounces are in a gallon. But I can see how people view google as a media company being that they do incorporate media in the search results, but as a defense google does not own the media as it is just a redirectery to the site that the media is contained in. as of 2017 Google consider themselves as media company being that by definition, Google disperse news through Google news and have online advertising. Google as well is a part of Youtube and Facebook and both being places that disperse of media and media content makes google a media company. Google has said that they are a media company for the purpose of business reasons according to Business Insider, by declaring they are a media company they can keep up with the ranks of Netflix, Twitter and Big tech. In 2008, it was said that Google was not a media company due to the New York Times owning a majority of the online advertising, since then this has changed drastically as Google stays very vigilant in being very modern. In July of 2020 Australia wanted Google to pay for the news containing anything of Australia being that Google claims money from the news broadcasted of the country but the country does not receive any of its money, this was also wanted to happen by Australia because they wanted news and power of media to be equaled when it came to broadcasting of news on local stations. Google in 2022 is considered a media company by definition and is a media company by official viewing but I still view it otherwise as I don't use content directly from Google as I use content or look for answers from the sites Google redirects me to.
